Battery Relocation:

Hey everyone, I wanted to provide an update on the eXtremeSuper project. Not allot of work has been completed in the past month, except for a little progress on the battery relocation.

We wanted to move the battery from its original location (under the back seat) to the front trunk driver’s side area. First we needed to cover the large “Spare Tire” area, since we will not be using it.

Making the Spare Tire Hole Cover Template:

First thing for us to do when covering that area is to “Trace Out” the floor. What I did, was took a piece of Romex wiring, and stripped the cover off.

Once the cover is off you have a nice bendable long piece of copper wire. Take that wire and lay it out around the trunk floor, go ALL the way around, and twist the wire together. Gently pull the laid out wire from the trunk, try not to malform the shape you’ve just created.

Lay it out on a ¼ in piece of plywood or heavy cardboard. Carefully use a pencil and trace around the wire outline, then cut it out using a scroll saw or a razor knife (cardboard only obviously)

Once you have it cutout do a test fit with the plywood or cardboard trimming it up where necessary. Lay the template out onto a piece of 20 gauge sheet metal and cut it out / have it cut out with a Plasma cutter. I had it cutout by a local metal shop, cost me $20.00 not to bad…

Insert the new cover into the trunk, and weld in place.

Doing the steps above, sort of paves the way for building the battery box, and the fiberglass trunk walls.

Stay tuned.

Jim
